Homewood Sixth Form Centre

All Inclusive Sixth Form

The Homewood Sixth Form Centre has a wide range of options that cater for students of all different interests and aspirations. With a great variety of resources and teachers who are passionate about active learning, the Sixth Form here really bridges the gap between education and our futures.

The students here at Homewood’s Sixth Form are focused on their futures however; the environment here encourages development in their independence and prepares them to really excel in their chosen life pathways.

In addition Homewood Sixth Form students are involved in a whole range of extra-curricular activities and charity fund raising events. In 2016, students started their fundraising efforts in time for Halloween, organising a Fright Night cinema evening for younger students which raised over £250.

Furthermore students in the Sixth Form are given the responsibility to govern themselves with a Head Boy, Head Girl and a senior team of cabinet officers with a range of different duties. Homewood staff also work alongside Sixth Form students each year in order to provide the Sixth Form with popular social events. The Sixth Form Christmas Party and Summer Leavers’ Ball are just two of the events where students can come together to celebrate their time at Homewood.

We are delighted that you have taken an interest in joining our Sixth Form and hope to see you in the near future.

Sixth Form Cabinet

Being an effective leader and skilled in teamwork are attributes that are valued highly by employers. Consequently the opportunity to develop team working and leadership skills is offered to all Sixth Form students with the expectation that those in Year 12 and 13 are positive role models for the rest of the school.

Students are encouraged to apply for the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl and to be members of the Sixth Form Cabinet that works in collaboration with them to take responsibility for student leadership in the school. Members of this group coordinate Charity fund raising events, organise social events for themselves and other year groups, represent the Sixth Form in parent information evenings, assemblies and in meetings in the local community and work in close partnership with the Sixth Form Staff leadership team. A further opportunity available to KS5 students is to go through an application and interview process to become a member of the Sixth Form mentor group that is trained to counsel and guide younger students.

Sixth Form students can also join the Interact Club, which is sponsored by the local Rotary group and which exists to provide additional opportunities for the development of organisational and leadership skills.

Student Support

At Homewood, we pride ourselves on the quality of care and support we offer. All those entering the Sixth Form are allocated to a mentor who is responsible for guiding them through their Sixth Form years. Students meet with their tutors once a week and this time is used to help students engage with Homewood’s QUEST programme. Time is regularly devoted to individual academic mentoring, as well as helping students to prepare for their work experience placements, give advice in planning their futures and developing study skils and time management. This is complimented by a programme of assemblies that involve many outside speakers to widen students’ understanding of the wider world and to gain an insight into the huge range of opportunities that are available to them.

Student Bursary

If you believe that you are eligible to receive further financial support to the cost of travel or help with the cost of equipment or opportunities for study, you can apply for a student bursary. If you wish to discuss any of the above please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Oven, Tel: 01580 764222 (extension 329), or via email at s.oven@homewood.kent.sch.uk
