English Language and Literature

5 GCSE or equivalent grade 4 or above, including a grade 4 in English Language.
This course involves the study of linguistics and English literature. Students will learn how to analyse a range of English language texts and will produce their own creative and evaluative writing in response to set briefs.
The two-year A Level course is comprised of five elements, assessed over two written exams and one independent project:
1. Remembered Places; 2. Imagined Worlds; 3. Poetic Voices; 4. Writing about Society; 5. Critical Commentary; 6. Dramatic Encounters; 7. Making Connections. A range of texts are studied across all genres.
To achieve the full A Level you will need to take all of the assessed units together at the end of the second year of the course, including topics taken in Year 12.
In 2018, 93% of students went to their first or second choice university.

In 2018, Homewood's Year 13 students achieved 100% pass rate in over 42 A-level and Level 3 courses.
