English Language and Literature

5 GCSE or equivalent grade 4 or above, including a grade 4 in English Language.
This course involves the study of linguistics and English literature. Students will learn how to analyse a range of English language texts: spoken language texts, non-fiction texts, plays, poetry and prose. Students will also learn how to produce their own creative writing from a stimulus and write an evaluative commentary about the process.
This two-year A Level course is assessed over two written exams and one independent project:
1. Remembered Places;
2. Imagined Worlds;
3. Poetic Voices;
4. Writing about Society;
5. Critical Commentary;
6. Dramatic Encounters;
7. Making Connections.
A range of texts are studied across all genres.

This course complements other Advanced Level courses or could lead on to Higher Education in English Literature Studies, or other Higher Education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Literature Studies, such as a teacher, journalist or author.
In 2019 96% of Homewood Sixth Form students were accepted by their first or second choice university.
