Entry Requirements

5 GCSE grades at 4 or above including a 6 in Mathematics.

Course Content

At AS level students will cover two different modules, Pure Mathematics and Statistics and Mechanics. Pure mathematics will introduce proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponential and logarithms, differentiation, integration and vectors. Statistics and mechanics will introduce applied mathematics and looking at the following topics data presentation and interpretation, probability, statistics distributions, kinematics and forces.
At the end of the first year you will sit two examinations.

At A2 level students will cover the two modules from the AS level in the first year and extend their studies in these area and start a new module – Pure Mathematics 2. Pure Mathematics 2 consists of similar topics to Pure 1 and introduces new topics such as numerical methods. At the end of the second year you will sit three examinations.

You could take this course with other Advanced Level courses to prepare for Higher Education in areas of mathematics, engineering, economics, physics or more general Higher Education courses.

Future Opportunities

With further training, you could go into employment related to mathematics such as an accountancy, engineering, financial advice or teaching.
